Elder Scrolls Online: New Player? GET FAST! Without ESO plus or Champion Points (PC/NA)

As a new player, I wanted to do everything faster.  I felt like if I moved faster I could level faster, craft items faster, and make money faster.  Here's a few tips on how to get speedy.

Unsetga, Nightblade Orc of the Ebonheart Pact at level 10 with
40% base speed increase, and 70% with skills.

We're going to focus on the following suggestions:

Create a Character.  In my personal opinion, one of the best classes to make speed gains is the stamina Nightblade.  I chose Orc for their bonuses to sprint (+10%).  You also want to wear medium armor for the sneak (+10%) and sprint (+10%) passives.

Turn on AutoLoot.  This will allow you to hit E at one dead enemy and loot all corpses in an area automatically, transferring the loot to your Item bag.  This speeds up looting corpses.

Join 5 Guilds and download Beam Me Up via Minion 3.  This will help you get around quick and spend ZERO money on wayshrines.  Use the Guild Finder to help you apply to guilds (default hotkey is G) through Browse Guilds.  Filter by Active Member Guild Size 301-500 in Additional Filters.  Selecting Group PvE, Social, or Crafting guilds will avoid guilds with dues or trader fees.  BeamMeUp itself has 3 guilds to choose from.  The BeamMeUp menu shows up when you bring up the map (M) and it's basically a shortcut to port to player from the Guild Roster.

Farm materials for Speed.  You could go straight into leveling at this point, but if you want to be REALLY FAST, this step is for you.  I farmed materials for about 1 hour to get these items and reached level 6 in doing so.  I sold extraneous materials on the Guild Market (available once you join a guild) for minor expenses.  The big items to auction are Furnishing Materials, Blue, Purple, or Yellow Crafting Materials, and anything intricate.  Tamriel Trade Center will give you a good idea of what things are worth; it also has an add-on.  For a level 4 set of gear, farm or purchase the following materials:

  • 45 rawhide - I farmed 78 rawhide scraps for a net of 56 rawhide
    • killed Alit, Nyx Ox, Mudcrabs, and Dreughs in Vvardenfell - think SKIN
  • 8 sanded maple - I farmed 18 rough maple for a net of 10 sanded maple
    • chopped felled maple
  • 9 style material any style - this can be purchased from a craft vendor for around 135g in the style of your race
  • 9 Emerald (training) trait - this is found on the guild markets or from a player, I paid 650g for mine (I sold everything I picked up while farming on the Guild Market)
  • 4 pewter ounce - I farmed 13 pewter dust which a player that had the Summerset DLC crafted into pewter ounces
    • mined pewter veins
  • 1 zinc - I purchased this from the Guild Market for 130g
  • 7 armor glyphs, 1 jewelry glyph, 2 weapon glyphs - I made all of mine with runes I farmed, glyphs can be purchased from the Enchanting vendor for 75g each or from the Guild Market

Rawhide scraps, rough maple, and pewter dust are all unrefined.
A crafter can use a craft table to refine them into Rawhide, Sanded Maple, and Pewter Ounce.
You use refined materials for crafting.

Craft gear for Speed.  Ask a guild member to Craft the listed items.  You can also ask in zone chat for a Master Crafter's help.  Thanks to Master Crafter @Lerozain for helping my character.  Once you're wearing Twice-Born Star you can get two mundus stones active, The Steed and one of your choosing; I went with The Thief.
  • Adept Rider (Medium Armor, Training Trait, Any Style)
    • Jack
    • Belt
    • Boots
    • Guards
    • Bracers
  • Twice-Born Star (Medium Armor, Training Trait, Any Style)
    • Helmet
    • Cops
  • Twice-Born Star (Training Trait, Any Style)
    • Bow x2 (or)
    • Bow and Two Daggers
  • Twice-Born Star (Robust)
    • Neck

The Steed can be found here in Reaper's March, or in The Rift or Bangkorai.

Needs more Speed.  Skills can have an influence on your speed too.  The medium armor skill line has improvements on Sneak, Sprint, and Stamina recovery.  Orc racial passives improve sprint.  If you decided to go Nightblade, the Shadow skill line has Concealed Weapon (sneak move speed +22%) and Path of Darkness (+30% base move speed, 10 second active skill).  There are also many passives which improve Stamina regeneration.  The Vampire skill line has a passive which will remove the movement penalty from sneak.  The PvP skill line Assault has Rapid Maneuver, an active skill which lasts for 7 seconds and has a movement speed increase of 30%.  You can get this at character level 10 and Assault level 4 instead of Path of Darkness.  Going to Cyrodiil and doing the tutorial quest will get you enough levels.  Continuous Attack, also in the Assault tree will give you +30% mount movement, which does not stack with Adept Rider.  Once you get level 50 and start leveling Champion Points (CP), you will be able to put points into movement speed and mount movement speed increases.  Right now the cap on improving movement speeds is +200%.  There are many other ways to get faster and if you are interested, Alcast HQ has a great guide on Speed enhancement for those of us with CP and more resources than a New Player might have.

Meet a Vampire at a shrine to be bitten.
Vampire Shrines exist in Reaper's March, The Rift, and Bangkorai.
Either ask a guildmate or in zone chat for a bite then do the story quest to open the skill line.
